Din-din tonight

Hubby had some orthodontic work done today so it's Minimal Chewing (MC) food night at our house.  Hubby wants Mexican and my first thought - 'Burrito Bowl' a la Chipotle.  As soon as I get home I'm going to attempt to recreate Chipotle's rice and red hot salsa based on recipes I found at Chipotle Fan

I will post the results later!

Wish me luck.

A (very brief) Feed Me review of the day

Orowheat's Sandwich Thins are my new go-to-in-a-pinch food.  These little puppies are awesome.  I really like the Whole Wheat and Multi-Grain ones the most, but the Whole Wheat White does in a pinch.  If you haven't seen these I would say they are similar to pita but I think a bit softer.
In the morning, I'll throw one in the toaster, throw in some scrambled tofu and soyrizo with soy cheese and a smear of avocado; easy breezy breakfast to go.
Right now I'm doing a Vegan until 6 PM food plan.  Hence the weird food combo.
Just toasted one and made a rocking PB&J for my lunch.
Ok, that's all for now.
Peace, love and food.

Diamondback Tavern Brain Drain

Did you know yesterday was National Prime Rib day?  I didn't until I read a FB post by @BaltimoreEats.  How serendipitous that Diamondback Tavern in Ellicott City has a Tuesday night special - $12.95 for a 12 oz Prime Rib dinner with 2 sides.  Also on Tuesday nights, they have Live Trivia and you can win $ prizes.  It's fun and you learn who really are fonts of useless information in your group of friends.
My advice for the future, get there EARLY if you want the special.  By the time we got there (around 7:30) all the Med Rare and under pieces were gone.  We were told all they had was Medium and Higher, but the Hubby ordered the rarest that they still had available and it was Medium Well, aka Shoe Leather.
The one saving grace for the overdone prime rib was that Diamondback Tavern ONLY uses meats from our favorite butcher, J.W. Treuth & Sons (http://www.jwtreuth.com/)  If you are in the area, trust me, this is the place to go for all things meat.  Any other prime rib cooked to that level would have been inedible.
I had a bite (or 5) of the mashed potatoes that came with Hubby's meal.  They were tasty.  Yukon Gold's make the best mashers, hands down.  They had the right amount of seasoning and retained a few chunks so you know they are definitely made in house.
Our friends ordered the NY Strip.  Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, when the meat is cooked right it is melt in your mouth deliciousness. We're a medium-rare and under household, can ya tell?  Thanks D&N for sharing with me.
I couldn't decide on what I wanted and after a bit of waffling between the Testudo sandwich and the Spinach salad, I went with the salad.  Definitely going to try the Testudo next time I go.  Pulled Pork, caramelized bananas and avocado?  Intriguing, yes?  I went with the Spinach salad.  I would have liked to add Chicken, Steak, Rockfish or Shrimp to it, but couldn't justify paying $17 to $20 for a salad.  The salad is $11.75 and you can add chicken for $5; the other options are higher in price.  They don't skimp on the meat for that price, but still... I'm cheap, sue me.  I'd give the salad an B+.  Fresh baby spinach tossed in a refreshing strawberry vinaigrette with raspberries, blueberries and strawberries but I would've liked to have a bit more fresh goat cheese on top.  There might have been 2 level tablespoons of it on there, doubling it would have knocked the salad into the A- or A grade.  Oh and I think there might have been a small piece or two of sliced, toasted almonds but there weren't enough to be memorable.
Unfortunately last night was eat the world night for me.  This happens often.  So, after finishing my Belgian beer, which was excellent, I also ordered a side of fries.  Wow!  That is what I call a side of fries.  They brought out a dinner plate full of fresh cut fries cooked to perfection.  I'll go back based solely on the merit of the fries.
Creme Brulee rounded out Hubby's meal.  It was creamy, Brulee-y goodness in a dish.
To sum it all up:  Service was friendly.  Trivia was entertaining.  Food was solid. The fact that it is no more than 10 minutes from my house is also a big point in Diamondback's favor.  Parking was easily accessible in a lot across the road and wide open on a Tuesday night.  We will be back.  I hear the Testudo calling my name.

Adventure is out there!

Food is my passion; my guilty pleasure.

I know for a fact that food runs the world.

Tonight I'm going out to dinner with friends and cannot wait to start sharing my adventures.

I'll be back later...
